What you will be doing 

Our Strategic Planning business unit is responsible for the medium and long-term planning of Auckland Airport. The Aeronautical Planning team is leading our approach to future developments. The team plays a key role in safeguarding the company’s social license to operate, ensuring investor and wider community stakeholder expectations are met.

In this role will be responsible for undertaking aeronautical planning studies to inform the medium- and long-term development of Auckland Airport, facilitating the delivery of high-quality planning studies by external consultants, providing planning data and inputs, assisting in the review of their outputs. The role will collaborate with other business units to ensure that the aeronautical/aero planning requirements are met at design.  

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Airport Planner to join our team. In this role, you will be taking responsibility for the management and delivery of a variety of projects including masterplan, airport facility planning, capacity and demand analysis and simulation modelling to support the medium- and long-term plan of Auckland Airport.
 

Your key responsibilities are: 

  • Coordinate and manage the development of terminal space plans and design 
  • Prepare digital sketches and layouts to test various terminal configurations, analysing and optimising their connection to the airfield. 
  • Develop and review conceptual designs of aeronautical infrastructure to optimize space utilization and operational efficiency.  
  • Actively engage with key stakeholders from other business units to understand medium and long-term requirements  
  • Understand the drivers and demand reasons and be able to articulate this to the stakeholders 
  • Act as a SME and support and pass on knowledge to less experienced team members and work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders  
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and consultants, to design efficient airport facilities.  
  • Monitor regulatory changes and international best practices (e.g. ICAO, IATA)   
  • Prepare documents, reports and presentations for Chiefs, Committees and the Board

What you will bring to the role

To ensure your success in this role, you will need: 

  • At least 5 years of airport planning experience, preferably with focus on terminal planning 
  • A degree in aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, air transport management, or airport planning (candidates with other relevant qualifications may be considered)  
  • Demonstrable professional experience in one or more technical fields within airport planning (airfield & apron, operations, terminal, airspace, etc.) is expected 
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD and AviPlan, to produce airfield and terminal spatial planning outputs 
  • Written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills 
  • Well-developed skills as a team contributor, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functional lines and with a variety of stakeholders
