The Digital Engineer role will be responsible for civil infrastructure projects across the airport, ensuring that BIM models, spatial data, and asset information are produced to the required standards throughout the project lifecycle. You will be leading the continual development of accurate and reliable records of civil infrastructure, to ensure information about critical built assets is readily available and trustworthy, to enable the business to make informed decisions.

 

About the role  

The role will manage reality capture programmes for civil assets, including the planning, coordination, and processing of scan and photogrammetry data. Also closely collaborating with the GIS team ensuring consistency of data between BIM and GIS systems. You will report to the Spatial Information Manager to implement digital delivery frameworks and support the handover of accurate building asset data into operational systems, including a campus wide BIM model and GIS database. 

Some of your key responsibilities will be:  

  • Be a primary point of contact for civil infrastructure related information requests that come via internal spatial requests, and RFI’s from external consultants and contractors
  •  Maintain and update Building Information Models and databases with accurate, and current information related to airport assets (i.e. Airfield, Underground Utilities, Roads, etc.) to reflect changes driven by the capital investment program
  • Align civil infrastructure record information with Auckland Airport’s digital delivery requirements, as per the AKL Asset Information Delivery Manual, ensuring data is correctly classified, attributed, and ready for operational handover
  • Perform field data collection with a variety of 3D laser scanners, on a range of project types
  • Create detailed 3D models to support planning, design, and construction phases, ensuring stakeholders have clear visual representations of project impacts and progress
  • Process points cloud and imagery data, including registration, cleaning, feature extraction, and file management 
  • Manage scanning hardware and software to ensure they are kept in good condition and updated
  • Provide guidance and training to contractors and consultants on digital delivery processes and tools

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum of 8+ years working experience within large scale and complex infrastructure projects 
  • Proven experience within large infrastructure or capital works programs 
  • Deep understanding of model production using a range of BIM Authoring tools and Building Services BIM Management (i.e. Civil 3D, Infraworks, Revit, Open Roads, Archicad, etc.) 
  • Experience of working with laser scan data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams 
  • Experience working in an open BIM environment
  • Understanding of IFC data structure and exchange processes
