Digital Designer and Visualisation Specialist
Digital Designer and Visualisation Specialist
Auckland Airport
Auckland Airport stands proudly as the gateway to Aotearoa, welcoming travellers beginning their journeys, farewelling Kiwis to new destinations, connecting businesses and workers to new opportunities, and celebrating partners and investors who back us along the way. We have ambitions to be a global hub and a comprehensive development programme to deliver this vision.
Auckland Airport is delivering a significant capital works programme. The Digital Designer and Visualisation Specialist role will support the new terminal configuration, bringing a major infrastructure project to life for public release by communicating complex spatial ideas through compelling, accurate 3D visualization. You will be working with multiple stakeholders from infrastructure development, strategic planning, operations, commercial, and communications within Auckland Airport.
About the role
The role draws on the full depth of the Spatial team's BIM and GIS data and 3D modelling capability, while working closely with stakeholders across the business who need spatial ideas translated into something they can see, react to, and act on. While you are an internal design thinking partner, you are also a production lead for high-quality 3D visualisation content for internal and external release.
Some of your key responsibilities will be:
·
- Work closely with the Strategic Planning and Architecture team to develop early-stage spatial mock-ups and design options that support feasibility thinking, option analysis, and business case development ahead of formal architect engagement.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with external service providers and relevant software vendors to ensure they continue to meet the demands of our digital delivery programme of works
- Produce 3D massing models, spatial layouts, and design iterations for building, terminal, retail, and landside planning scenarios, enabling planning and commercial teams to test and refine ideas rapidly
- Develop time-based models to communicate delivery processes and timelines.
- Engage with Operations and Commercial teams to understand spatial requirements, constraints, and objectives, and translate these into clear visual representations that can inform internal decision-making.
- Produce high-quality architectural renders, animations, and visualisation outputs from BIM models and design data, using real-time rendering environments
- Unlock value from our campus wide lidar scans to improve the 3D quality of our BIM and GIS datasets
- Develop the use of 3D datasets across our GIS platform
- Partner with the Communications and Marketing team to project manage and deliver 3D visualisation content for external release, including community consultation materials, media announcements, investor presentations, and public-facing digital content
- Act as the spatial and technical lead on external visualisation projects, coordinating with external creative agencies, photographers, and production partners where required
What you’ll bring to the role
At Auckland Airport, we are a busy hive of activity, and a lot of what we look for is how you would align with our values Respectful, Collaborative, We Care, Integrity and Exceptional.
To ensure your success in this role, you will need:
- Minimum of 8 years working experience within large scale and complex infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in using tools such as 3ds Max, Unreal Engine, Synchro 4D
- Proven experience within large infrastructure or capital works programs
- You may have a background in Architecture, 3D visualisation, BIM, Simulation, and Video gaming
- Expert proficiency in BIM authoring tools including Revit and/or ArchiCAD, with demonstrated ability to develop and iterate design models at concept and schematic stage
- Expert proficiency in real-time and offline rendering environments for architectural visualisation
- Demonstrated experience producing visualisation content for external release, including public consultation, media, or investor audiences
