The Data Platform and Governance Lead sets the strategic direction, operating model and governance for Auckland Airport’s enterprise data platform. The role ensures trusted, high-quality and accessible data supports informed decision-making, digital acceleration and regulatory confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the enterprise data platform strategy, roadmap and future-state direction.
- Establish and evolve the data platform operating model, including roles, responsibilities, and engagement with business units
- Ensure alignment between data platform capabilities, digital strategy, and wider enterprise architecture
- Chair or lead data governance forums and working groups with cross-functional business representation.
- Establish and embed clear data, ownership and stewardship across business units, supported by practical standards, accountabilities and governance processes.
- Establish data standards, policies, and controls that balance compliance with usability
- Work closely with the Data and Insights team and data engineering specialists to translate current and future analytical needs into platform priorities, standards and investment decisions.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team.
- Create clarity of purpose, roles, and expectations within the data platform domain
- Contribute to the development of Auckland Airport’s long-term business strategies and plans by ensuring data platform capabilities support strategic decision-making and future growth.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Lead by example by visibly demonstrating and communicating safe work practices.
- Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated in a timely manner to enable continuous learning and improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in data-focused technology roles, including at least three years in data governance or data management.
- Experience leading data governance practices, with a strong understanding of delivery models, portfolio planning and resource management.
- Proven people leadership and capability development experience
- Strong understanding of Azure Data Factory, Synapse and other relevant Azure data platform tools, with the ability to guide technical direction and make informed platform decisions.
- Strong understanding of SQL-based data environments and modern data engineering practices.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and modern data pipeline deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of data analytics and data science requirements, and how these inform enterprise data platform strategy and capability.
