About the role Due to an internal promotion, we're looking for an energetic and service-driven Assistant Operations Manager to join the team at Mānawa Bay. Working closely with the Facilities Manager and Centre Management Team, you'll play a key role in ensuring Mānawa Bay remains a welcoming, safe, clean, and vibrant destination for our retailers and visitors. With a strong focus on soft services, you'll oversee critical service delivery functions including cleaning, security, waste management, presentation standards and lead our sustainability operations. This is a highly visible, hands-on role where you'll spend time building relationships, coordinating contractors, managing service standards, resolving operational challenges and driving continuous improvement across the centre.
If you're a natural problem solver who enjoys leading through influence and takes pride in exceptional presentation standards then we'd love to hear from you.
This is a full-time, permanent onsite position working Sunday to Thursday.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Supporting the day-to-day management of soft services, including cleaning, security, waste management and sustainability operations
  • Building strong relationships with service partners and contractors to ensure consistently high service standards
  • Leading site inspections, audits and quality assurance checks to ensure building compliance and standards
  • Championing the centre's waste management and sustainability initiatives including regular waste audits
  • Co-ordinating contractor activities to minimise disruption and ensure a seamless customer and retailer experience
  • Responding promptly to operational issues and implementing effective solutions and corrective actions
  • Assisting with planned maintenance programmes and contractor scheduling
  • Supporting tenancy fitouts alongside the Retail Delivery Manager
  • Overseeing car park operations, traffic flow and parking systems
  • Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture and ensuring contractors operate in accordance with site requirements and best practice
  •  Identify and present opportunities to enhance service delivery, operational efficiency and the overall visitor experience

What you’ll bring to the role

At Auckland Airport, we are a busy hive of activity, and a lot of what we look for is how you would align with our values: All In - Tātou tātou, Know How - Kōkiri Tahi and Let’s Go - Karawhiua.

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • Ideally 3+ years' experience in operations, soft services, facilities management, hospitality, retail operations, or a similar customer-focused environment
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers, particularly cleaning, security and waste management
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences and maintaining high presentation standards
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work confidently across all levels of stakeholders
  • A proactive, hands-on approach and a willingness to take ownership of issues through to resolution
  • Confidence using operational systems and technology with the ability to quickly learn new platforms
  • An understanding of Health & Safety requirements within retail, hospitality, property or facilities environments

Technical facilities experience is beneficial, but we're particularly interested in candidates with strong soft services management, contractor management, and operational coordination experience who are passionate about creating outstanding environments for customers and retailers.

Some after hours work may be required, including responding to emergencies.
