About the role 

We are looking for an Airfield Safety and Compliance Investigator to support the Airfield Safety and Investigations Team Leader at Auckland Airport. Based at the heart of our operations team, the ideal candidate will have a passion and drive for safety and investigations and will play a vital role in identifying airfield hazards, monitoring safety trends and reporting incidents and near-misses to ensure risk level on the airfield is managed as low as reasonably practicable.

This role is a full-time permanent role, working Monday to Friday, 08:30-1700.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Ensure that incidents and near misses relating to airfield operations are reported, investigated, and followed up, with corrective actions assigned and implemented in accordance with Safety Management Policy
  • Lead investigations and complete any assigned investigations
  • Act as a Risk Manager system Champion within Operations, supporting training needs of Operations staff in using Risk Manager as required
  • Monitoring of driver and vehicle compliance, including enforcement of rules in accordance with the Airside Driving and Vehicle Permit Rules and Just Culture Policy
  • Attend regular safety walks with internal and external stakeholders. Fostering strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is vital to this role.
  • Provide training and expertise in relation to investigations
  • Safety oversight on the airfield, including compliance of airport ground servicing equipment and associated operating practices, airport maintenance activities on and around operational areas
  • Complete management of change process when implementing new processes or procedures, in accordance with Safety Management Policy
  • Assist with airfield project planning to ensure a safe and compliant work environment, that stakeholders are notified, and any operational impacts are minimized.

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • An ability to anticipate and identify risks/issues, identify possible solutions and apply agreed solutions
  • Flexibility regarding the hours or work
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to effectively manage competing work priorities
  • An ability to follow oral and written instructions and to seek clarification when uncertain
  • A self-starter approach to work. Able to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • 4+ years working in an airport operational environment is desired
  • Knowledge of Civil Aviation Rule Parts, 12, 77, 100 and 139 will be highly valued
