What you’ll be doing

Strong stakeholder management is essential to the success of Auckland Airport and the wider New Zealand travel, trade, and tourism sectors. With a significant infrastructure development programme underway, our internal and external stakeholders are at the heart of everything we do.

As Stakeholder Manager, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring all aspects of stakeholder management are thoughtfully planned and proactively managed. You’ll help deliver better outcomes for our projects and programmes by fostering strong, trusted relationships, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed and supportive at every stage. Your work will also help protect and enhance Auckland Airport’s reputation through strategic planning and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead stakeholder engagement strategies and plans for Auckland Airport’s infrastructure projects and programmes, working closely with the Corporate Communications team to ensure consistent, holistic messaging.
  • Take a forward-looking, strategic approach to engagement, mapping key milestones and ensuring alignment across the full programme or project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver meaningful engagement with partners and stakeholders, sharing the vision and progress of the programme and addressing risks and issues effectively.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to project teams and senior stakeholders on how to best engage with key partners.
  • Ensure timely, consistent, and confident delivery of communications that align with both project needs and overarching corporate messaging.
  • Proactively manage reputational risk and support communications and engagement during issues or crisis events.
  • Champion best practice in stakeholder engagement across the organisation, supporting teams to build strong relationships, close the loop with stakeholders, and manage engagement end-to-end.
  • Act as a role model for Auckland Airport’s “People First” approach to health, safety, and wellbeing.

What you’ll bring to the role

At Auckland Airport, we are a busy hive of activity, and a lot of what we look for is how you would align with our AKL values All In | Tātou tatou – How we feel, Know How | Kōkiri Tahi – How we think and Let’s Go | Karawhiua – How we act.

You’ll have strong stakeholder, communications and relationship building skills including experience of managing a diverse mix of stakeholder interests. You will be comfortable with working in a complex delivery environment and translating the project and delivery information to effectively engage with a varied ecosystem of stakeholders.

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • 3 years + proven experience in stakeholder management, project management or related large scale infrastructure projects.
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, project management or related discipline.
  • Experience at developing and implementing a strategic approach to stakeholder management.
  • Sound knowledge of communications and engagement tools, techniques and channels.
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to lead and implement change in a positive way.
  • High level of accuracy and a people first and values-based approach.
