About the role 

The Strategic Planning team plays a central role in shaping the future of Auckland Airport and articulating the business’ 30-year vision. It oversees Auckland Airport’s Master Plan and provides strategic advice in relation to aeronautical planning, transportation, environmental planning and sustainability, to ensure the timely delivery of infrastructure projects to enable Airport growth. To support our vision for the future, we are seeking an experienced Development Manager with a strong background in vertical projects and airport development and planning capability. In this role, you will be undertaking the planning and management of future projects and programmes, with a focus on terminals, buildings and associated airfield developments. You will work closely with the Capital Development Programme Manager and the wider team to bring the airport’s Master Plan to life, while also providing inputs to support engagement with key stakeholders, including airlines and government border agencies.   

Some of the key responsibilities include: 

  • Ensuring that project and programme development is aligned with the Capital Plan, masterplan, company strategy, and aeronautical requirements, reflecting an enterprise view 
  • Accountability to ensure sufficient resources, skill and care are applied to the development stages of the project 
  • Ensuring that projects are developed with an enterprise view, input is proactively provided to the project governance and that the outcomes of the project are consistently managed to meet business objectives 
  • Balancing the benefits and costs of alternative approaches to achieve optimal outcomes and ensuring inputs from across the business into feasibility studies and business cases are co-ordinated  
  • Ensuring project delivery is tightly managed to achieve business objectives and governance 
  • Managing risk, opportunity, and safety within the project 
  • Maximising synergies and managing project interfaces 
  • Working cross functionally, and sharing resources 
  • Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders 

 

What you’ll bring to the role

To ensure your success in this role, you will need: 

  • Tertiary qualification in  relevant discipline such as engineering or architecturewith a focus on buildings and vertical infrastructure. 
  • 15+ years’ experience project development roles in complex infrastructure projects (airport terminals, buildings and airfield infrastructure experience required) 
  • Varied and in-depth commercial project experience, including demonstrated experience in leading feasibility studies  
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven ability in building credibility, influence and working effectively with professional and technical contractors  
  • Excellent quantitative, verbal and written communication skills  
  • Advanced presentation skills  
  • Proven ability to focus on business benefits and needs.  
  • Ability to translate business need into high quality project briefs and business cases  
  • Demonstrated experience in proactively identifying and implementing practical solutions to technical problems, in a complex and dynamic environment
